Our mathematics curriculum aims to provide students with authentic knowledge that will prepare them for a productive life in the 21st Century. A strong understanding of mathematical concepts underpins many aspects of everyday life. It supports learning across curricula and develops the mind to think logically, abstractly, critically and creatively.
The overarching goal of the Singapore National Mathematics Curriculum which is adapted for use at Middleton is to ensure that all students are able to use mathematics in a way that serves them well in life. It equips students with the content strands of number and algebra, measurement, geometry, statistics and mathematical processes and is used across all strands of the curriculum. The curriculum for mathematics aims to enable students to:
- develop a positive attitude towards mathematics
- acquire mathematical concept and skills for everyday use and continuous learning in mathematics
- develop thinking, reasoning, communication, application and metacognition skills through Mathematical approach to problem-solving
- build confidence and foster interest in mathematics
