Lola Lai
Class Teacher
Lola is a global educator with over 16 years of teaching and mentoring experience, having worked with schools and communities across South Africa, Turkey, Cambodia, Japan, the Maldives, Thailand, Panama, and Singapore. Her vast, international experience has shaped a strong commitment to global citizenship, cultural understanding, and inclusive education.
She is deeply passionate about child-centred, constructivist learning and specialises in transdisciplinary, creative, and research-based pedagogies. Lola places strong emphasis on purposeful curriculum planning, learner agency, and thoughtfully designed learning experiences that support curiosity, inquiry, and collaboration. She strives to model a lifelong love of learning by continuously exploring new ideas and disciplines alongside her students.
Guided by the principle, “A good teacher shows children where to look, but not what to look for,” Lola focuses on facilitating discovery rather than delivering didactic instruction. Her classrooms are learner-centred, engaging, and inquiry-driven, fostering students to investigate, think critically, and make meaningful connections.
Beyond the classroom, Lola believes strongly that Learners Inspire Learning. This philosophy has led her to become a licensed safari field guide in Southern Africa and a PADI scuba diving instructor. She is currently exploring ceramics and pottery and aspires to pursue paragliding guide certification. Outside of school, she enjoys snowboarding, scuba diving, and Pilates, bringing her wide-ranging interests and enthusiasm for learning into all aspects of her teaching practice. Chat to her about ethology, entomology, oceanology, ornithology, global citizenship, anthropology, sociology, and traveling off the beaten track and she gets immensely excited!
